Song by DorFuchs about the geometric series

DorFuchs (born November 16, 1993 in Dresden ; bourgeois Johann Carl Beurich ) is a German mathematician who publishes math tutoring in the form of "math songs" on YouTube , Spotify and iTunes . In a song released in early 2013, he sings about his motivation for the math songs and says he wants to help others understand math better.

Life

Beurich gained fame through his videos on the YouTube portal , in which he sings and raps on various mathematical topics . The name of his YouTube channel DorFuchs is Saxon and means DerFuchs in high German . He has been uploading his songs there as learning videos since mid-2011 and some of them have up to a million views. This success also brought him further media attention. His videos are offered as learning material in the media library in the Thuringian school portal. He also produces learning videos for the Learnattack learning platform from Dudenverlag.

After graduating from high school in Luisenstift in summer 2012, he began a bachelor's degree in mathematics at the Technical University of Dresden in the 2012/2013 winter semester . In September 2017 he completed his master's degree with the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.) . Since October 2017 he has been a doctoral student at the Technical University of Dresden, where he now works as a research assistant at the Institute for Analysis.

He has also published songs on his channel about his Christian faith and relationship with God.

In December 2019 he founded another YouTube channel called TheGermanFox for English-language math songs , because he only wants to keep the German language on his main channel.

reception

The press described him as a “singing math genius” ( Stern.de ), “Radebeuler Multitalent” ( Berliner Morgenpost ) and “Internet star” (DerWesten).

Awards

  • 2013: The German Mathematicians Association presented Johann Beurich as "Mathemaker of the Month May 2013".
  • 2013: Nomination for the Grimme Online Award
  • 2013: In October he was named the first MINT ambassador of the year .
  • 2013: Winner of the German Multimedia Prize mb21
  • 2013: Fast Forward Science, special jury award, for its midnight formula (abc formula). Beurich received prize money of 2,000 euros.
  • 2018: Helmut Fischer Prize for Science Communication from the Deutsches Museum . Beurich received prize money of 5,000 euros.

Media appearances (selection)

At the end of 2013, Beurich applied for the talent show Millionärswahl organized by ProSieben and Sat.1 . There he was voted 49th by the audience and was supposed to appear in the last live broadcast, but this did not happen due to the broadcast reduction (instead, only a film was shown).

On January 22nd, 2015 he was a total guest on TV , where he presented several math songs (partly together with the heavytones ). On March 26, 2015 he was seen at Galileo , where he introduced himself in more detail and showed an excerpt from the math song about partial integration .

On June 8, 2017, the TV show KiKA LIVE broadcast a feature with Beurich, where he and the presenter Jessica Lange composed a song to quickly multiply a number by 11. At wdr.de, it was presented in 2017 among the best-known learning video channels on YouTube.
