Johann Bjelik von Kornitz (also Johann Bielik von Kornitz ; Czech Jan Bělík z Kornic ; * before 1434, † after 1496) was a Moravian - Silesian nobleman. As a supporter of the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus , he was captain of the Upper Silesian duchies from 1481 to 1488 .

Life

Johann Bjelik came from the Moravian-Silesian noble family with the predicate "von Kornitz" ( z Kornice ), which is derived from the place of the same name, which today belongs to the Polish rural community Pietrowice Wielkie ( Groß Peterwitz ). The branch of Bjelik von Kornitz, from which Johann descends, was mostly wealthy in the Duchy of Teschen . In 1434, Johann and his brothers Sobek and Matěj acquired Strzebowitz near Ostrau (today Třebovice ).

Johann was married to Elisabeth Pankraz ( Alžběta Pankrácova ) from St. Nikolaus ( Sv. Mikuláš ) for the first time. After her death, he settled in the Duchy of Opava and was married to Katharina von Krawarn ( Kateřina z Kravař ), who brought Groß Hoschütz into the marriage. As a marriage asset, he gave her the rule of Oderberg .

When Matthias Corvinus wrested the Duchy of Jägerndorf from its rightful owner, Duke Johann IV. , During the Hungarian-Bohemian War for supremacy in Bohemia , he had it administered by Johann Bjelik. Corvinus also transferred the administration of the Duchy of Cosel to him, which he had also appropriated in 1477.

In 1481 Matthias Corvinus, whose domain included the Bohemian neighboring countries Moravia , Silesia and Lusatia since 1474 , divided the office of governor of Silesia. Johann Bjelik became captain of the Upper Silesian duchies and Georg von Stein , who was also governor of Schweidnitz-Jauer , captain of the Lower Silesian duchies. Georg von Stein resided in Schweidnitz or on the Fürstenstein , Johann Bjelik in Cosel . In Cosel he had the old wooden castle built out of stone.

Presumably under pressure Corvins sold 1,482 of Gliwice Duke John IV. , The second half of Gliwice to Johann Bjelik who had previously purchased with the help Corvins the first half. In addition to the Duchy of Gliwice , he also owned Hultschin . Together with his son Wenzel / Václav, he acquired Kosmütz ( Kosmice ) in the Hultschiner Ländchen in 1484 .

In 1487, Johann Bjelik captured the Opole dukes Johann II and Nicholas II during a prince's day in Cosel . They had met with Emperor Friedrich III at the Nuremberg Reichstag . complained about Matthias Corvinus and should therefore be punished. They were only released after Corvin had paid homage and paid 30,000 guilders.

After the death of King Corvinus in 1490, Johann Bjelik was captured by his successor Vladislav II in 1492 . In order to regain the favor of the king, Bjelik and his son Wenceslaus renounced all possessions, which meant that he went off with impunity. Bjelik's wife Katharina von Krawarn also gave up her marriage estate Oderberg. Gleiwitz and Hultschin now came to Wilhelm II von Pernstein .
