Johann Busmann (writer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Busmann (also: Johannes Busmann and Bussmann as well as Buschmann or Busmannus ; born after 1490 in Lübbecke or Hanover ; died after 1564 ) was a German Protestant clergyman and writer .

Life

Johann Busmann was born in the Hochstift Minden , was a contemporary of the theologian Martin Luther , whom he deeply admired, and was one of the well-known scholars of his time.

Busmann attended the school there under Timan Camener and Johann Murmel in Münster .

In 1537 Busmann presumably stayed in Wittenberg .

From 1544 Johann Busmann lived in Hanover . Here he was in contact with the two first Lutheran mayors Anton von Barkhausen and Hinrich Bomhauer , but also on friendly terms with preachers like Scarab , "Christopherus" and others. Busmann's most important Hanoverian friend, however, was Anton Corvinus , who recommended him to the sovereign, Erich II , Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, based on Busmann's poetry . Among other things, Busmann published a Carmen de laude Hannoverae (“Poem to Praise Hanover”) and an epithalamium on the wedding of Erich II in 1544 and 1545.

Probably Erich II's change to the Catholic faith was the reason why Busmann “as a Lutheran-minded person” felt compelled to leave the city of Hanover. Through his work in Lübbecke, where he still lived in 1564, he encouraged interest in philosophy and the fine art of speaking.
