Johann Christoph Arnschwanger
Johann Christoph Arnschwanger (born December 28, 1625 in Nuremberg ; † December 10, 1696 there ) was a German Protestant pastor and hymn poet .
Life
Arnschwanger was the son of the Nuremberg businessman Georg Arnschwanger and his wife Margarete Rosenhart. After attending school at the Egidien-Gymnasium in Nuremberg, Arnschwanger studied theology in Altdorf near Nuremberg from 1644 . In 1647 he moved to the University of Jena . He successfully completed his studies at the University of Helmstedt , and in 1650 he was awarded his master's degree under Professor Georg Calixt .
The following year, Arnschwanger was appointed vicar in Nuremberg. In 1652 he became a deacon at St. Egidien , in 1654 a preacher at St. Walpurgis, in 1659 a deacon and in 1690 archdeacon at St. Lorenz .
In 1675, Duke August von Sachsen-Weißenfels accepted him into the Fruit Bringing Society . He gave him the company name of the innocent and the motto always stay pure . The white Quendel was given to Arnschwanger as an emblem . Arnschwanger's entry can be found in the Köthen society book of the fruit-bearing society under no.853.
Arnschwanger's work comprises almost 400 sacred songs. He is known as a contributor to songs to works by the Nuremberg theologian Johann Michael Dilherr . Johann Christoph Arnschwanger died on December 10, 1696 in Nuremberg at the age of almost 71.
