Life

Glaubitz was trained in Bohemia . After the Vilna city fire of 1737 he was appointed there as a builder. First he began with the reconstruction of the Johanneskirche (1738-1743), the construction of which had been financed in 1555 by German merchants. The St. Catherine's Church , built in 1622, was also rebuilt by him between 1741 and 1743 in the late Baroque style. Glaubitz, who acquired the reputation of the creator of the Lithuanian Baroque , was appointed " Bau-Conducteur der Kirchenhäuser" (construction manager) for the country's Protestants and was a member of the board of the evangelical community in Vilnius. Around the middle of the 18th century he rebuilt the Great Synagogue in the Renaissance style .
