Johann Conrad Bromeis (chemist)

Johann Conrad Bromeis (born February 6, 1820 in Kassel , † January 3, 1862 in Michelstadt ) was a German chemist .

From 1835 Bromeis studied natural sciences and architecture in Göttingen and Berlin , 1839/1840 in Gießen and in the summer of 1841 organic chemistry with Robert Wilhelm Bunsen in Marburg , where he received his doctorate on July 17, 1841 .

Then he worked at the secondary school in Hanau , where he had his own laboratory. In 1851 he completed his habilitation in Marburg, read technical and analytical chemistry, and finally became an associate professor for chemistry and technology. Among other things, he wrote a “chemistry textbook”, examined the fichtelite and other minerals, the sources of Bad Nauheim and studied the oxidation of fatty acids . He discovered terebic acid . His work can be found in the annals of Johann Christian Poggendorff and Justus von Liebig .
