Johann Eduard Hofmokl (born August 11, 1840 in Brzezany in Galicia , † March 25, 1900 in Vienna ) was an Austrian surgeon.

Johann Eduard Hofmokl studied medicine at the University of Vienna , where he completed his studies as a doctor of medicine and surgery as well as a master's degree in obstetrics in 1865. He then worked under Johann Dumreicher at the First Surgical University Clinic at the General Hospital of the City of Vienna , where he also completed his habilitation in 1871.

In 1873 Johann Eduard Hofmokl became chief physician of the surgical department at the Leopoldstadt Children's Hospital , between 1876 and 1881 he headed a surgical department at the Vienna General Policlinic and from 1881 worked as a primary physician at the Rudolfstiftung Hospital .

Since Johann Eduard Hofmokl had served three semesters at the university clinic after the death of Johann Dumreicher, he was appointed associate professor in 1885.

He was offered a full professorship at the University of Krakow . However, he rejected this in favor of the primary school at the III. Surgical department at the General Hospital in Vienna.

As a physician, he mainly dealt with incarcerated hernias, with callus formation - here he did experimental work with Salomon Stricker - and the surgical straightening of bones caused by rickets .

Johann Eduard Hofmokl was appointed Hofrat in 1900 . After his death, the former Zappertgasse in Vienna's 15th district, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, was named Hofmoklgasse after him. He was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery on March 27, 1900 in a grave with the right to use the grave for the duration of the cemetery.
