Johann Esich (historian)

Johann Esich (* 1557 in Bremen ; † August 30, 1602 in Bremen) was a German educator , preacher and historian .

biography

Esich was the son of the Mayor of Bremen, Johann Esich (1518–1578). He studied at the University of Wittenberg , the University of Leiden , the University of Heidelberg and the University of Basel . After graduation he was the preceptor (teacher) of the Count of Nassau . In 1589 he became Dr. theol.

From 1587 to 1593 he was the second rector of the Latin school in Bremen, which later became the Illustre grammar school ; He was the successor to Rector Theodor Gluichstein, followed in 1600 by Johannes Wessels.
From 1590 he was a Protestant canon and extraordinary preacher at St. Stephen's Church in Bremen . Among other things, he wrote works on the history of Bremen, which he handed over to the Bremen Council in 1598 .

The Esich House in Bremen was completed in the Weser Renaissance style by the Esich family at Langenstrasse 13 in 1618 by the councilor Harmen Esich. It is now considered Essighaus called, there was also a vinegar factory here in the later years.
