Johann Friedrich Bahrdt (born July 17, 1789 in Dargun ; † February 12, 1847 in Neustrelitz ) was a German writer.

Life

Johann Friedrich Bahrdt was the first of six children of the poor belt master (Michael) Eckardt Bahrdt and the forester's daughter Johanne Marie Beata born. Westphal to the world. He grew up with his maternal grandfather in neighboring Finkenthal , where he was tutored by the pastor. He resisted his father's job as a tailor and then trained with a pharmacist in Teterow . In 1813 he joined the Lützow Freikorps and took part in its campaigns. He then went to Neustrelitz, where he worked as a pharmacist's assistant until 1831. Since he did not have the necessary financial means to start his own business as a pharmacist, he gave up this profession to devote himself to writing. Together with Adolf Glaßbrenner he was the editor of the Wendischer Bote . In addition, he wrote some dramas that were performed in various theaters. In addition to poetry, occasional poems and dramas, Bahrdt also wrote a prize song on Mecklenburg-Strelitz . From 1833 to 1837 he was secretary to the Minister of State August von Oertzen (1777-1837). After that he lived on a small pension until his death in 1847.

From the marriage with the fisherman's daughter Albertine Maria Friedrike born in Teschendorf (Burg Stargard) on November 1, 1833 . Saefkow († 1834), had a daughter, Albertine (born October 4, 1834, † April 26, 1916 in Neustrelitz). She became a teacher at a girls' school [or at the Neustrelitz grammar school].
