Johann Friedrich Krause (born October 26, 1770 in Reichenbach in Vogtland , † March 31, 1820 in Weimar ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and general superintendent in Weimar.

Life

Krause was the eldest son of the Reichenbach archdeacon Christian Friedrich Krause (born January 24, 1740 in Plauen , † February 8, 1783 in Reichenbach) and Johanne Sophie Stauß (born May 10, 1751 in Lengenfeld, † August 23, 1799 in Reichenbach) . He grew up with five siblings. The most famous person in his family was Erdmuthe Kraus, who later became the mother of Friedrich Nietzsche . In addition, his brothers the theologian August Friedrich Krause (1776-1840) and the merchant in Plauen Carl Gottlob Krause (1773-1844) are known. After the early death of his father, Krause decided to become a theologian. With much effort from his mother, he was given a job at the Sankt Afra grammar school in Meissen , where he began training on April 21, 1784. His most authoritative teacher was Donner.

On August 17, 1789, he left the educational institution to enroll at the University of Wittenberg on October 6, 1789 . Here he acquired the academic degree of a Magister in Philosophy on October 17, 1791, and on January 4, 1793, as a Magister legens, he was granted permission to hold private lectures. In the same year 1793 he became a deacon in Reichenbach and in 1801 cathedral preacher in Naumburg (Saale) . In 1808, as school inspector, he was given responsibility for supervising the Domgymnasium Naumburg and the other schools in the district. In 1810 he was awarded a doctorate in theology by the University of Königsberg, whereupon he was appointed professor of theology at the Albertus University in Königsberg and at the same time appointed to the consistorial council and pastor of the Löbenicht Church . However, he increasingly suffered from health problems. In 1819 he accepted the position of court preacher in Weimar and general superintendent for the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach . However, he died in March 1820 and was buried in the Jakobsfriedhof .

He had married a woman from Weimar, but the marriage remained childless.
