Johann Friedrich Olearius (1697–1750)
Johann Friedrich Olearius (born June 30, 1697 in Halle (Saale) , † March 24, 1750 in Magdeburg ) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
The son of Johann Christian Olearius and his second wife Maria Elisabeth (née Ringhammer) had already lost his father at the age of three, so his mother tried to bring him up. She hired him private tutors and prepared him for a degree at the Halle grammar school. He attended the University of Halle , where he wanted to devote himself to theological studies and first completed a basic course in philosophy. In addition, he attended lectures in philosophy with Johann Gottlieb Heineccius , heard philology with Christian Benedikt Michaelis and also attended theological lectures with Paul Anton and Johann Heinrich Michaelis .
In the summer semester of 1717 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he heard theological lectures with Johann Gottlob Pfeiffer (1667–1740). On February 16, 1718, he acquired the degree of master's degree in Leipzig, returned to Halle and took over the sermons there. Having noticed him, Duke Christian von Sachsen Weißenfels commissioned him to preach in the castle church in Weißenfels and Freyburg . In 1725 Olearius received a pastorate in Kößlitz and Wiedebach in Zeitz . After almost two years, in May 1727 he became adjunct at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Magdeburg , in the same year a deacon and in 1745 senior pastor there. In addition to a theological dissertation, he has mainly published funeral sermons.
