Johann Friedrich Rosenzweig (* 1716 (1718) in Strasbourg ; † June 28, 1794 in Leipzig ) was university riding and stable master at the University of Leipzig .

family

Rosenzweig came from the noble family Rosvick von Rosenzweig, who came from Bohemia and moved to Alsace after the Counter-Reformation. His ancestors were raised to the nobility by the German Emperor Matthias (1557–1619) in Bohemia as early as 1612 .

Rosenzweig was married three times and fathered a total of 25 children, of which only eight survived their father. A Karl Friedrich Rosenzweig, probably from his first marriage, was regimental stable master in Rathenow . The youngest son from the second marriage with Margarethe Dorothea geb. Faber († April 1767 in Leipzig) was:

  • Karl Friedrich Rosenzweig from 1822 also Carl Friedrich von Rosenzweig (born April 15, 1767 in Leipzig, † January 26, 1845 in Dresden ), German lawyer, civil servant and diplomat in Russia , most recently with the rank and title of a royal Saxon secret legation councilor . His mother died after giving birth.

Life

Rosenzweig was the son of an official. He himself did not pursue the same career. He succeeded in following his inclination with the Royal French Academic Stallmaster Baron von Zettwitz in Strasbourg and learning the art of riding with him. For a short time until 1740 he was stable master for the Duke of Aremberg in Brussels . After Rosenzweig became university riding and stable master in Leipzig in 1740, he gave riding lessons for the - mostly noble - students of the University of Leipzig. In addition, he gave lectures on equine studies. He is seen as a forerunner of veterinary medicine at Leipzig University. In addition to keeping horses and riding lessons, he devoted himself to the treatment of diseases and horse cheating . This was also reflected in his writing, which he wrote for the imperial stable master in 1780, based on preliminary work by Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Eisenberg . So he recommended u. a. Before paying for a horse, you should have it in the stable for 24 hours and watch it to discover possible mistakes. Furthermore, animals that are soiled on the joints should not be bought because they are intended to hide the defects that would reduce the value of the horse.

Rosenzweig was a member of the Minerva Masonic Lodge in Leipzig . From 1744 to 1746 he was a master of the chair. It is certain that this was not his only Masonic activity. Apparently he was also a visitor to the mother box " To the three world balls" in Berlin . From 1776 to 1781 he was also registered with the matriculation number 19 in the matriculation of the Leipzig Lodge Balduin zur Linde . The next following matriculation number for the same lodge lists none other than the director of the Painting and Drawing Academy Adam Friedrich Oeser . 1780–1781 Rosenzweig was deputy master of the chair at Baldwin.
