Johann Friedrich Stephan von Hertling (born April 15, 1729 in Heidelberg ; † February 13, 1806 in Munich ) was a German lawyer and high-ranking civil servant. In 1790 he became a baron.

Life

Johann Friedrich Stephan von Hertling was the Electoral Palatinate Privy Councilor and 2nd electoral ambassador in Frankfurt am Main . In 1790, Elector Karl Theodor appointed him as the successor to Wiguläus von Kreittmayr as secret council chancellor of the Electorate of Electoral Palatinate Bavaria and as conference minister. When Elector Maximilian IV Joseph took over the business of government in 1799, Hertling confirmed in all his offices that he, like his son Friedrich Wilhelm, had been in constant contact with the court of the new Elector. After his death in 1806 a son of the former finance minister Hompesch, Johann Wilhelm von Hompesch , took over the same department.
