Zepelin was the second son of the royal Danish major (as a lieutenant colonel in the Second Battle of Höchstädt on August 13, 1704) Melchior Dietrich von Zepelin (* 1649 - August 13, 1704) and Maria Elisabeth von Oeynhausen (* 1659 - † after 1716) born. He was baptized on September 5, 1695 in Hostrup and on February 28, 1710, although he was born in Mecklenburg, he entered the electoral Hanoverian military service . He went to England with Elector Georg on his accession to the throne, where he initially distinguished himself many times in the king's battles against the Stuart party. In November 1728 Zepelin married Magdalena Lucretia von der Kettenburg from the house of Matgendorf (* May 15, 1701, † August 20, 1760 in Uetersen ). From this marriage there were five sons and three daughters. In 1729 he was promoted to Rittmeister and in 1737 to major in the body regiment "Garde du Corps". During the Seven Years' War he took part in the campaigns of Duke Ferdinand von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in West Germany as colonel and commander of the Reuter regiment "von Zepelin" and as major general and commander of the Garde du corps . 1759 he became a lieutenant general in pension and took his retirement home first in Uetersen where his sister Agnes Dorothea (* July 18, 1686 (5) in Breckendorf, † July 1760 in Uetersen.) As a pin lady in Kloster Uetersen lived. His wife died here in the same year, who was buried in a grand ceremony on August 28, 1760 behind the altar in the Uetersen monastery church . Zepelin left the place a few years later and died in 1777.
