Johann Georg Gmelin (physician)

Johann Georg Gmelin (born September 10, 1652 in Sondelfingen , † March 7, 1705 in Stuttgart ) was a German medic .

Life

As the last of ten children of Samuel Gmelin , Johann Georg Gmelin was born on September 10, 1652 in Sondelfingen. At first he aimed to train as a pharmacist and studied at the University of Tübingen , then at the University of Basel and finally in Schaffhausen . 1675 he became a doctor in Marbach and his doctorate shortly after the doctor of medicine. He moved to Stuttgart in 1679 as an extraordinary personal physician and hospital inspector , in order to be promoted to full in 1684. He was called to Dresden in 1696 to become electoral Saxon and royal Polish personal physician. Gmelin died on March 7, 1705 in Stuttgart.

Gmelin was the founder of the Stuttgart line of the family. He had been married twice: on January 31, 1676 he had married Christiane Engel in Tübingen and on September 30, 1684 Anna Sabine Sattler in Stuttgart. He had a total of twelve children, among them the clergyman Georg Ludwig Gmelin .
