Johann Georg Schmidt (painter)

Johann Georg Schmidt (* around 1685 in Bohemia ; † September 15, 1748 in Krems ) was a Baroque painter . To distinguish it from the better-known namesake Martin Johann Schmidt ( Kremser Schmidt ), he was also called Wiener Schmidt .

Life

Johann Georg Schmidt enjoyed an apprenticeship in the studio of Peter Strudel and was influenced by Martino Altomonte . He often worked with architects such as Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt . Especially in Lower Austria and Vienna many high altar paintings and ceiling paintings have been preserved, including Altenburg , Klosterneuburg Abbey , Lilienfeld and Zwettl .
