Johann Gottfried Sammet

Johann Gottfried Sammet (born August 26, 1719 in Leipzig ; † November 17, 1796 there ) was a German lawyer and university professor .

Life

Johann Gottfried Sammet was the son of a soldier.

He received his first school education at home and later attended the Niclas School (today: Alte Nikolaischule ) in Leipzig; his teachers there were Dietrich Dreßler (1673–1746), Johann Christoph Ortlob (1675–1751) and Christian Gottlob Haltaus (1702–1758).

After finishing school he was a soldier for some time and began studying law at the University of Leipzig on October 22, 1739 . He heard lectures from Ferdinand August Hommel , Gottfried Mascov , Abraham Gotthelf Kästner , Johann Ernst Hebenstreit and Friedrich Alexander Künhold (1693–1767).

After completing his studies, he went to the court in Dresden for three years in order to be able to establish contacts there, where he met Johann Adolf II of Saxony-Weissenfels , on whom he placed his hopes, but who died in 1746. Johann Gottfried Sammet then returned to Leipzig and completed his habilitation on November 10, 1746 at the law faculty for Dr. jur. both rights.

Until the end of his life he gave lectures as a private lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Leipzig, in 1769 he turned down an offer at the University of Erfurt .
