Johann Gottfried Tympe (born October 16, 1699 in Biederitz , † June 28, 1768 in Jena ) was a German oriental philologist and Protestant theologian .
Life
Johann Gottfried was the son of pastor Simon Tympe (* 1665 in Burg; † February 12, 1729 in Biederitz) and his second wife Anna Magdalena Siegfried, who married on January 19, 1697 in Biederitz (died April 25, 1671 in Burg; † 6. March 1729 in Biederitz), daughter of the pastor in Burg Simon Benedikt Siegfried (born November 10, 1637 in Burg; † June 13, 1680 ibid.).
After receiving his first guidance from his father, he was trained by private tutors. Then he attended the school in Burg (near Magdeburg) and the cathedral school in Magdeburg . During his education he had developed a particular fondness for oriental languages. Prepared in this way, he enrolled at the University of Jena on September 28, 1717 . Here, above all, Johann Andreas Danz became his formative teacher. He also attended the lectures on philosophy with Johann Jacob Syrbius , he deepened his mathematical knowledge with Johann Bernhard Wiedeburg , with physics, anthropology and anatomy he got acquainted with Hermann Friedrich Teichmeyer and his theological formative teacher was Johann Franz Buddeus .
On May 17, 1721 he acquired the academic degree of a Magister in Philosophy and on May 16, 1722 the right to read aloud at universities as a Magister . On January 31, 1723 he became an adjunct of the philosophical faculty in Jena. On August 18, 1734 he was appointed associate professor of Oriental languages, on September 13, 1738 he was appointed full professor of classical and oriental languages and in 1761 professor of theology. Tympe also took part in the organizational tasks of the Salana. He was dean of the philosophical faculty and in the summer semesters 1744, 1754 and 1768 rector of the alma mater . The member of several learned societies died in his last term as rector. He had made a name for himself above all in Hebrew lexicography and through his work on particle theory .
Tympe had apparently married a daughter of the Jena superintendent Johann Georg Zeissing (born July 14, 1709 in Großenlupnitz, † October 1, 1760 in Jena). The daughter Ernestina Catharina Tympe († 1762) married Johann Heinrich Vincent Nölting in October 1761 , the son Johann Gottfried Tympe (* Jena; † March 16, 1758 in Jena) died as a student. Johanna Sophia Christiana Tympe is known by name as another daughter.
