Life
The son of the privy councilor and chancellor of the royal Swedish duchies of Bremen and Verden, Martin von Böckel (1610–1688) and his wife Judith Christina Tancke, the daughter of the provost and syndic of the city of Lübeck and his wife Johanna Juliana Steuerungagel, received his first training from private teachers in Lübeck. Here he attended the city school, traveled with his father to Holland and received a court master in Rotterdam. In 1660 he moved to the University of Rostock , where he first completed a degree in philosophy.
He then studied law, where he attended the lectures of Hermann Lembke (1619–1674), Albert Willebrand the Elder (1608–1681), Heinrich Rudolf Redeker (1625–1680) and Christian Woldenberg (1621–1674). He continued his legal studies in 1664 in Helmstedt and in 1667 at the University of Heidelberg with Friedrich Böckelmann (1633–1681), Silvester Danckelmann (1601–1679) and Magnus von Wedderkop (1637–1721).
After an educational trip through the Upper Rhine countries, to the University of Strasbourg and the University of Tübingen , he obtained a licentiate in law on May 25, 1671 in Rostock . In 1673 he was appointed associate professor of law at the University of Helmstedt . He received his PhD in 1675 in Rostock to the doctor 's rights and was also on September 27, 1677 Professor of Ethics in Helmstedt. In 1678 he took over a full professorship for feudal law and canon law at the law faculty in Helmstedt, which he held until the end of his life. In addition, he was a member of the court in Wolfenbüttel .
His marriage on May 15, 1677 to Hedwig Sophia, the daughter of the Helmstedt professor at the law faculty Johann Eichel von Rautenkron (1621–1688), remained childless. Von Böckel's grave is located in the so-called von Eichel-Böckelschen grave chapel in the churchyard of St. Stephen's Church in Helmstedt , where his father-in-law Johann Eichel von Rautenkron rests.
