Albert Willebrand (the elder)

Albert Willebrand , called the Elder , also Willebrandt (born October 22, 1608 in Rostock ; † August 27, 1681 ibid) was a German law scholar and university professor, rector of the University of Rostock .

Life

Albert Willebrand was the son of the legal scholar Nikolaus Willebrand and his wife Catharina, geb. Hein (1576-1662). He completed a law degree in Rostock, Wittenberg, Leipzig and Jena. From 1637 to 1641 he went to a " peregrinatio academica "; this educational journey from university to university led him a. a. to Holland, England, France and Italy.

On June 21, 1642, Willebrand was awarded a doctorate in Rostock at the Faculty of Law. iur. utr. PhD. The activity as a lawyer followed. In 1657 he was appointed ducal full professor of the codices at the University of Rostock by Duke Gustav Adolph . From 1685 he was ducal full professor of the institutions. In 1660, 1663 and 1670 he was rector of the university. In addition, he was for a short time assessor of the princely. Consistory and inspector of the Monastery of the Holy Cross . An epitaph with his portrait was in the Jakobikirche Rostock until 1942 .

The
Albert Willebrand family married on June 21, 1642 - the day of his doctorate - Elisabeth Cothmann (1622–1662), the daughter of the Mecklenburg-Güstrow chancellor Johann Cothmann . The children came from marriage:
