Johann Gottlieb von Hoffmann

Johann Gottlieb von Hoffmann (* 1724 in Silesia ; † February 23, 1797 in Insterburg ) was Prussian major general in Hussar Regiment No. 5 and heir to Eltinehlen, Szameitschen and Jurlauben.

Life

origin

He comes from a middle-class background, his father was a pastor .

Military career

In 1744 he went to the Hussar Regiment No. 5 as a simple hussar . There he became a non-commissioned officer in 1756 . During the Seven Years War he was on December 14, 1758 cornet , on December 10, 1760 Second Lieutenant and on March 28, 1762 Premier Lieutenant .

After the war he was raised to the nobility on February 25, 1770 . On July 14, 1773 he was Rittmeister and received his own squadron . On May 8, 1778 he became a major and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On June 1, 1788, he became a lieutenant colonel and received the Pour le Mérite on June 8, 1789 at the military parade in Heiligenbeil . On 17 August 1790 he was yet to Colonel promoted before its on November 6, 1792 resignation received with pension. On December 5, 1794 received the character of a major general and the permission to wear the regimental uniform. He died in Insterburg on February 23, 1797.

family

He was married to Erna Euphrosine von Kallenberg (* 1746, † August 25, 1770). The marriage remained without children. Therefore, he adopted his cousin Johann Leopold Sandes (born April 19, 1744, † September 7, 1810), who also served in Hussar Regiment No. 5. This received the nobility as Sandes von Hoffmann and died as Rittmeister a. D.
