Johann Heinrich Achterfeld

Johann Heinrich Achterfeld (born June 1, 1788 in Wesel ; † May 11, 1877 in Bonn ) was a Catholic theologian , professor and editor .

Achterfeld studied theology as a student of Georg Hermes in Cologne and Münster and worked as a priest in Wesel and Xanten from 1813 . In 1817 Achterfeld became professor of theology in Braunsberg and from 1826 professor of moral theology and homiletics at the University of Bonn . From 1827 he also headed the local theologian convict .

In 1832, Achterfeld founded the magazine for philosophy and catholic theology together with Johann Braun and published Georg Hermes ' lectures as Christian Catholic dogmatics between 1834 and 1836 . When Pope Gregory XVI. This was forbidden in 1835, Achterfeld did not recognize the condemnation of the Hermesian teaching system, so that he was deprived of the leadership of the Konvikt and repeatedly forbidden to give lectures. In 1843, Achterfeld's professorship was put up for discussion. Only after a declaration of submission was he rehabilitated by the government in 1862 and by the church in 1873.
