Johann Heinrich Orth (born July 22, 1653 in Talheim ; † April 5, 1733 in Heilbronn ) was Mayor of Heilbronn from December 28, 1716 to March 17, 1731 .

Life

Johann Heinrich Orth comes from the Langenselbold branch of the Orth family, who originally came from Langenselbold near Hanau and immigrated to Heilbronn via Frankfurt am Main in 1533 . The coat of arms of the Langenselbold branch of the Orth family depicts a golden lion jumping up and holding an arrow. Johann Heinrich's grandfather Heinrich Johann Orth was a lawyer in Heilbronn. Johann Heinrich's father, Philipp Ludwig Orth, became a baron-sperbereck bailiff in Talheim and therefore temporarily gave up his Heilbronn citizenship. He married Anna Rosina Fischer from Talheim, the family returned to Heilbronn in 1667.

Johann Heinrich Orth attended grammar school in Heilbronn and enrolled at the University of Heidelberg in 1675 , but quickly switched to the University of Strasbourg . Due to illness, he broke off his studies after five and a half years and returned to Heilbronn, where he married in 1680 and settled as a freelance consultant and lawyer. In 1683 he was a member of the municipal court and since August 15, 1689, he belonged to the small, inner council ( from the burgers ). In 1695 he was tax lord , from May 28, 1701 he was town school. In December 1716 he became mayor of Heilbronn . He was initially the third mayor and in 1726, after the death of Johann Esaias von Rühles, he advanced to the position of second mayor. From 1717 he was also Vogt von Flein .

Orth was characterized by a confident demeanor and a certain dexterity, which is why he was often sent on diplomatic missions to the emperor, to the city council or to the Reichshofrat in Vienna. With age, his strength, especially his hearing and memory, decreased noticeably. On March 17, 1731 he asked for his retirement.

Orth was the owner of the Trappenseeschlösschen from 1714 . His first marriage was to Elisabeth Wachsmuth (1645–1691) and his second marriage to Maria Barbara Sommerhard (1672–1738). The first marriage had four children, but all of them died early. The second marriage had 13 children, four of whom remained alive, including the later Mayor of Heilbronn Georg Heinrich Orth (1698–1769).
