Baron Johann Hieronymus von und zum Jungs (born October 17, 1660 in Frankfurt am Main ; † August 23/25, 1732 in Brussels ) was an imperial field marshal .

Life

family

Johann Hieronymus came from the family belonging to the Frankfurt patriciate as a boy . His parents were the Frankfurt aldermen Daniel zum Junge (1627–1678) and Anna Maria Weiß von Limpurg (1629–1689). His 1713 in Milan marriage to the Countess Anastasia Basilissa of Pergen (1679-1734), widow of the imperial Field Marshal Lieutenant Baron Johann Georg von Martiny († 1712), remained without children.

career

As a boy, his career in imperial service began in 1679 in the defense of Strasbourg against the French , who were able to occupy the city permanently in September 1681. After that he was used in the Great Turkish War and from 1693 he was an infantry leader in Transylvania in the front. During the War of the Spanish Succession he was on duty in Northern Italy, in 1703 he became a colonel and became the owner of the Imperial Infantry Regiment No. 27 , which he named until 1732. Prince Eugene of Savoy , who was also a patron of him, had the boy come to his staff in 1704 in order to be able to take part in the decisive battle at Höchstädt . On June 2, 1705 he was promoted to sergeant-general and on April 24, 1708 to field marshal lieutenant. During the campaign in Tuscany in 1711 he became governor of Novara. His promotion to Feldzeugmeister took place on May 17, 1716. As such, he played a decisive role in the reconquest of Sicily from 1718 to 1719 , where he distinguished himself particularly during the siege of Messina . As a result, zum Junge was Commander-in-Chief in Sicily from 1720 to 1722. from 1722 to 1725 he took garrison in Milan, where he was promoted to field marshal on October 20, 1723. In 1726 he was sent to the Netherlands as general commander of the Austrian troops . There he died of a blow river while walking in a Brussels park .
