Johann I of Meissen

Johann I von Meißen , also Johannes Belger, Johannes Franck (* around 1300 in Meißen ; † 30 July 1355 in Heilsberg ) was bishop of Warmia from 1350 to 1355 .

Life

The ancestors lived in the margraviate of Meissen . Johann traveled to Emilia-Romagna , studied at the University of Bologna and graduated in 1324 with a master's degree in the field of liberal arts . He then became a cleric in the diocese of Meissen and from 1326 worked as a notary in Lower Silesia and a notary in the Teutonic Order state with the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Luther of Braunschweig .

From 6 July 1334 he belonged to the consistory and was cathedral dean of the cathedral chapter at the cathedral in Frombork . When Bishop Hermann of Prague died in Wormditt on December 31, 1349 , he was elected Bishop of Warmia by the Warmia Cathedral Chapter at the beginning of 1350. Then at the end of April 1350 he received the sacrament of episcopal ordination in the Papal Palace in Avignon on behalf of Pope Clement VI. by Cardinal Bernard d'Albi from the diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina . In 1351 he moved the bishop's residence from Wormditt to Heilsberg Castle .
