Life

The Streifrock / Stryprock families came to the Teutonic Order State as colonists from Lübeck and settled in Elbing and Braunsberg . After his ordination , Johann Stryprock was a canon of the cathedral chapter in Frauenburg . First he worked as a prelate , then from 1328 as cathedral custodian . In 1343 it appointed the Bishop Hermann of Prague to the Vicar General , including locum tenens who cared mainly to the secular administration. When his predecessor, Bishop Johann I von Meißen, died on July 30, 1355, he was appointed Bishop of Warmia by the cathedral chapter. He traveled to Avignon to see Pope Innocent VI. ; the consecration was made by Cardinal Élie Talleyrand de Périgord of the Diocese of Albano on November 17, 1355. His simple bishop's coat of arms led on the coat of arms with tinging in red a knee-length, short-sleeved men's skirt in silver with three stripes in red sloping down from the central axis. In the upper coat of arms a miter with pendilies and a crook on the left ; both tinged in gold .

He took care of church affairs and economic development of the diocese, among other things, he invited the priests and clergy every three years to a diocesan synod . The Principality of Warmia was the secular rule of the Bishops of Warmia in their capacity as princes of Warmia within the Teutonic Order State . The Teutonic Order was the patron of the diocese, but only took care of external representation, military defense and the right of nomination for some chapter lords. There were disputes with the Teutonic Order about the episcopal property, including parts of the Great Wilderness of Gaus Galinden .

After a conflict with Grand Master Winrich von Kniprode in 1369 and ongoing hostility to the Teutonic Order, he traveled to Pope Gregory XI in the summer of 1373 to bring an indictment to the Papal Palace in Avignon. When he died there on September 1, 1373, Heinrich III. Sorbom appointed bishop. The burial took place in September 1373 in the Dominican church in Avignon.
