Johann III. (Oldenburg)
Count Johann III. von Oldenburg (documented 1302 - 1342 ) was Count of Oldenburg . He was the second son of Count Johann II from his first marriage to Elisabeth von Braunschweig-Lüneburg .
Life
Johann III. from 1316 shared his rule with his brother Christian IV (documented 1302–1323) and from 1324 with his half-brother Konrad I (documented 1313–1347). Around 1330 he temporarily took over the custodial rule in the county of Stotel . On his order, the raster of the illuminated manuscript of the Sachsenspiegel, which was completed in 1336, testifies to the Count's interest in jurisdiction on a solid basis.
An exchange transaction in 1331 that the Count House against possessions in Menslage , Löningen and Lastrup the castle Elmendorf and the ownership of the Lords of Elmendorf in Ammerland earned concluded Johann documented together with Konrad and his other half-brother Moritz († 1368) from. Together with Konrad, he also acted as an ally of Archbishop Burchard Grelle of Bremen against the Rüstringer Frisians until the conclusion of peace on December 15, 1337.
From his marriage to Mechthild, whose origins cannot be determined, four sons can be proven, of which only Johann IV emerges as his father's successor.
