Life

Leon began his studies in Wittenberg in 1550 . In 1553 he became a teacher in Erfurt and in 1554 a pastor in Azmannsdorf . From 1560 to 63 and from 1568 to 74 he was pastor in Großmölsen . Beginning of the song I have put my thing in God from 1589

Johann Leon wrote numerous church hymns , including I put my Sach Gott home , which Johann Sebastian Bach later arranged as a chorale ( BWV  351). The melody of this song, which comes from an unknown composer, was also used by Bach in the instrumental setting of his cantata Gottes Zeit ist der Verybest Zeit (BWV 106), as well as for his organ chorals BWV 707 and BWV 708. Also Heinrich Schütz ( SWV  305) and Georg Philipp Telemann used his texts.
