Wölfis is a district of Ohrdruf in the Thuringian district of Gotha .

geography

The place is located in the valley of the Oberschillbach (formerly Schilfbach ), which unites on the north-western edge of the village with another brook to the Hopbach (formerly Rotenbach ) and forms the border to the military training area Ohrdruf in the north about 1000 m. It flows into the Ohra after flowing through the military area north of Ohrdruf . In the south of the village lies the northern slope of the Thuringian Forest . The majority of the municipality is occupied by the military training area. The L 2148 runs through the village and leads from Ohrdruf (4 km northwest) to Crawinkel (4 km south). The northern edge of the village is directly adjacent to the restricted area of the military area.

history

At the beginning of the 9th century, Wölfis is mentioned as Wolfduze in a list of the properties of the Hersfeld Monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz . Around 1378 Cyzelo von Wiegleben had an estate at Wölfis. The estate was owned by the von Wangenheim family until 1945 .

On January 20, 1735, a conflagration devastated the church and the rectory, both school buildings and another 199 buildings. The church documents were also blown away, a reason for the sparse information on the early history of the place. Using donations, a new church was built, which was consecrated on October 16, 1736. In 1780 the place was largely rebuilt and counted 294 houses, more than a third than in the previous century. In 1780 the village had 1,100 inhabitants. The place belonged to the Amt Wachsenburg , which in 1640 came to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha , from 1672 to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and in 1826 to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .

On January 1, 2019, the independent municipality of Wölfis was incorporated into the city of Ohrdruf. Earlier, Ohrdruf was already a fulfilling church for wolves.
