Johann Ludwig Hartmann

Johann Ludwig Hartmann (born February 3, 1640 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , † July 18, 1680 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian and folk writer.

Life

He was the son of pastor Johann Georg Hartmann and attended the University of Wittenberg , where he earned the academic degree of a master's degree. In 1660 he became a preacher in Spielbach , in 1661 rector of the high school in Rothenburg, and in 1666 superintendent there . In 1670 he received his doctorate in theology from the University of Tübingen . His numerous and often extensive theological works in German and Latin often point to grievances in church life. The Pastorale Evangelicum is considered one of the most important pastoral theological works of Lutheran Orthodoxy . As a friend of Philipp Jacob Spener , he exchanged letters with him until his death.
