Johann Ludwig II von Sulz (born October 23, 1626 in Tiengen ; † August 21, 1687 in Jestetten ) was the ruling Landgrave in Klettgau from 1648–1687 and 1649–1687 court judge at the court in Rottweil . With him as the last representative in the male line, the dynasty of the Counts of Sulz expires .

Marriage, offspring and origin

Johann Ludwig was the son of Karl Ludwig Ernst von Sulz (1586–1648) and Marie Elisabeth von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (1592–1658) a daughter of Karl II. Von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . He had Tiengen Castle , which was destroyed in 1642, rebuilt, which is why he mostly resided in Jestetten Castle, where he also died.

He married on July 2, 1652 in Weingarten Maria Elisabeth von Königsegg-Aulendorf (1636–1658) with whom he had two daughters. The legacy went to:

The remaining offspring died in childhood. With Johann Ludwig, the Count von Sulz family died out in the male line.

Johann Ludwig was buried in the crypt of the Tiengen parish church, and the intact grave was rediscovered during construction work in March 1978. With the count's salvaged and secured dead clothing, it was possible to lift textiles from the 17th century intact.

The heart of the last Count von Sulz was buried at the former Capuchin monastery in Waldshut .

The Counts of Sulz had been in debt for generations. On July 17, 1651, Johann Ludwig sold the Rafzerfeld with all sovereign rights to the city of Zurich and in 1656 the northern part of the Landgraviate to the city ​​of Schaffhausen , which had been part of the Confederation since 1501 , with which over half of the Landgraviate of Klettgau was lost.
