Johann Lund
Johann Lund (also Johannes Lundius, born September 11, 1638 in Flensburg , † September 13, 1686 in Tondern ) was a Lutheran pastor and Hebraist. He is best known for his posthumously published works on the Israelite cult and the temple in Jerusalem .
Life
Lund was born in Flensburg as the second child of Pastor Thomas Lund. He studied Protestant theology and Hebrew in Leipzig . After a time as an informator in Dresden and Aabenraa , he became adjunct in 1664 and deacon in 1672 at the Christkirche in Tondern. He held this office until his death. According to the "preface" written by Johann Christoph Wolf to Johann Lund's "Old Jewish Sanctuaries" in the 1738 edition, Lund was, in addition to his academic work, very committed to pastoral care and charity and a highly spiritual man. He also had artistic ambitions and designed some of the pictures and ornaments for his work himself.

Lund published only a few sermons and funeral speeches during his lifetime . But his contemporaries considered him learned and knowledgeable in the oriental languages. His main work was first published by his son Thomas Lund, who was also a pastor, and appeared in Schleswig in 1695/96. The work went through several further editions: It was published by Heinrich Muhlius in 1704 and republished in 1738 with additions by Johann Christoph Wolf . A Dutch translation was also published in Amsterdam.
