Johann Martin Heigl († 1774 ) was a Bavarian fresco artist of the late Rococo .

Life

Nothing is known about the birth and origin of Martin Heigl. He was a student of Johann Baptist Zimmermann from whom he was encouraged at an early age. His activity as a subcontractor for Zimmermann is secured from 1753. As an artist “exempted from the court” he was able to accept his own commissions even after Zimmermann's death in 1758. In 1757 Heigl married Magdalena Schneider, who was born in Eggenfelden in 1726 . Heigl and his family moved from Raitenhaslach to Munich around 1766 . Regional focuses of his work are the areas around Bad Aibling , Erding , Mühldorf and southern Upper Bavaria with the Innviertel . In addition to frescoes, Heigl also created individual altar paintings. Heigl died in 1774. The exact date and place of death are unknown.
