St. Nikolaus (Mühldorf am Inn)
The parish church of St. Nikolaus in Mühldorf am Inn was first built in 1251, but it fell victim to a fire. It was built as a Romanesque - early Gothic building in the style of a basilica . It was rebuilt around 1300. This building was replaced from 1432 to 1443 by a late Gothic new building, which, however, left the church tower and the entrance portal in the nave.
history
In 1764 the steeple was given its recessed top with a typical baroque onion roof. The bell tower houses a chime consisting of historical as well as new bronze bells with the strike tone sequence g sharp - b - c sharp ′ - e ′ - f sharp ′ - g sharp ′.
In 1768, in the course of a baroque redesign of the interior, the nave pillars were fatally narrowed, which led to the nave collapsing. The reconstruction was started immediately. The Salzburg court architect W. Hagenauer was involved in the design, and Franz Alois Mayer from Trostberg was responsible for the construction management. The new nave was completed in 1771 and consecrated in 1775.
The richly detailed, early classical facade of the nave stands in an exciting contrast to the sparse Romanesque tower body. The contrast is increased by the different materials: The visually soft and colored plaster of the nave contrasts with the visually hard and angular natural stone of the tower. The most conspicuous decorations of the nave are the double pilasters, the elegantly structured façades of the nave. The pilaster capitals trace the Tuscan order . Wide, high arched windows open between the double pilasters and ensure a bright interior. The windows have frames, which are closed up by curved roofing beams (following the rounding of the opening).
The choir on the back is from the late Gothic church building, but was partially redesigned when the nave was built. The Gothic pointed arched windows became baroque round arched windows.
The interior shows a splendid baroque design. The choir, which is even more baroque on the inside, is indented and opens up to the three-bay nave via a round triumphal arch . The tabernacle and side altars were created in 1762. The vault frescos , created in 1771/72, are by Martin Heigl . In the choir they show St. Nikolaus as intercessor, in the nave events of his life. The rich rococo - pulpit was made in 1772, in 1774 was followed by the high altar .
organ
The organ with 37 registers on three manuals and pedal was built in 1973 by Max Sax. The disposition is:

The collegiate monastery belonging to the church was founded in 1610 by the Salzburg archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau . In the course of secularization in Bavaria , it was dissolved in 1803. The collegiate church became a parish church. Negotiations about rebuilding the monastery in 1844/1852 remained unsuccessful.
