Johann Michael Seraphin Zeitlinger (often just: Michael Zeitlinger ; born September 29, 1803 in Micheldorf in Upper Austria , † January 28, 1860 in Schlierbach ) was an Austrian scythe trade.

Michael Zeitlinger was the third of eight children of the scythe factory Franz Seraphicus Zeitlinger and his wife Seraphina Maria Theresia Zeitlinger, born. Weinmeister was born at the Sensenschmiede an der Zinne in Micheldorf. He was the younger brother of Caspar Zeitlinger .

Live and act

Michael Zeitlinger married the trade daughter Maria Theresia Cäzilia Kaltenbrunner from the scythe forge Blumau in Schlierbach ( Kirchdorf an der Krems district ) on June 3, 1823 . In 1827 he took over the scythe factory and property of his in-laws. In 1831 he had the representative new manor house built by the Linz city architect Franz Höbarth . By 1845, "40 scythe smiths and an even larger number of unskilled workers" were already producing 50,000 scythes and sickles a year, the majority of which were exported. In 1856 Zeitlinger was given permission to operate a hammer . In 1858 he had an aid organization converted into an independent scythe hammer and increased production further. After his death in 1860, his son Caspar Melchior Balthasar Zeitlinger continued to run the renowned company as Michael Zeitlinger's son .

Michael and Theresia Zeitlinger had eleven children and 56 grandchildren. The sons, if they had not died at a young age, all worked as scythe manufacturers: Franz Zeitlinger became the owner of several scythe factories in Micheldorf and Spital am Pyhrn , Johann Michael Zeitlinger bought a scythe factory in Kindberg and founded the Zeitlinger line in Waidhofen . Ludwig Zeitlinger came to Schmiedleithen and became the owner of several scythe factories in Leonstein . Josef Julius Zeitlinger , a well-known tenor, took over the management of the Oberhaindl scythe factory in Micheldorf. The daughter Josefine Zeitlinger also married a Sense trades that from the Wasserleith originating Carl Weinmeister .

In 1833 Zeitlinger, together with his brothers Franz Paul and Caspar, co-founded the oldest brass band in Upper Austria.
