Johann Moritz Hofmann

Johann Moritz Hofmann (born October 6, 1653 in Altdorf near Nuremberg ; † October 31, 1727 in Ansbach ; also Johann Moritz Hoffmann or Johannes Mauricius Hoffmannus ) was a German physician and university professor .

Life

Moritz Hofmann's son studied medicine at the universities of Altdorf and Frankfurt an der Oder , then for two years at the University of Padua . After a scientific journey through Italy , he returned to Altdorf in 1674, where he received his doctorate in 1675 . Two years later he was appointed extraordinary professor of anatomy and shortly thereafter full professor , five years later he was also given the chair of chemistry and, after the death of his father, the chair of botany . In 1684 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1709 he resigned his professorship in anatomy and became professor of practical medicine.

In 1713 Hofmann went to Ansbach. There he was employed as a personal physician at the court of Margrave Wilhelm Friedrich .

As successor to Michael Friedrich von Lochner , Johann Moritz Hofmann was Director Ephemeris of the Leopoldina from 1721 to 1727 .
