Johann Nepomuk Locherer

Johann Nepomuk Locherer (born August 21, 1773 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † February 26, 1837 in Gießen ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and university professor .

Life

Locherer studied from 1790 Catholic theology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and attended the seminary in Meersburg . He was ordained a priest on July 2, 1798 , then from 1799 he had a position as a priest in Wendelsheim , from 1800 in Seebronn and from 1805 in Jechtingen . In 1830 he was supported by the University of Tubingen to Dr. theol. PhD . His efforts to get a chair in Freiburg, supported by the diocese administrator Ignaz Heinrich von Wessenberg , failed.

Locherer received on a proposal from the Mainzer bishop Joseph Vitus castle 1830 a reputation as a full professor at the newly built Catholic theological faculty of the University of Giessen . His work was intended to serve the reconciliation among the denominations and was rejected by stricter church circles.
