Johann Nepomuk Würth

Johann Nepomuk Würth (also: Wirt und Wirth * April 6, 1753 in Vienna ; † November 27, 1811 ibid) was an Austrian embossing ( wax ), engraver and medalist .

Life

Würth was the son of gold and silver worker Franz Caspar Würth and brother of Franz Xaver and Ignaz Würth . On February 4, 1769 he is attested as an "engraver scholar". From 1770 to 1771 he trained as a wax boss at the École des beaux-arts in Paris . As a pensioner of the Empress Maria Theresa, he also studied in Rome and London , where he exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1777 . From 1778 he worked at the main mint in Vienna, first as the successor to AF Widemann as a coin and medal engraver, from 1778 as a chamber medalist, since 1791 as a chief engraver, in 1798 he received the title of art school director, in 1801 the title of mountain councilor.
