Johann Nepomuk Gotthard Graf von Schaffgotsch (* May 16, 1713 - May 18, 1775 ) was a Prussian minister .

Life

Origin and family

Johann Nepomuk von Schaffgotsch was a member of the Silesian - Bohemian noble family Schaffgotsch , who lived in the Giant and Jizera Mountains . His parents were Johann Anton Graf von Schaffgotsch (1675–1742) and Anna Theresia, née Countess Kolowrat-Nowohradsky (1690–1759). The Prince-Bishop of Breslau Philipp Gotthard von Schaffgotsch (1716–1795) was his brother. He himself remained unmarried and left no children.

Career

Schaffgotsch initially served in the imperial army and was taken prisoner by the Turks in 1732 , from which he returned in 1734. By 1740 he had advanced to be Rittmeister . He was Commander of the Order of Malta in Groebing, Brno and Kralowitz .

In 1742 he joined the Association of Freemasons and in 1772/73 was master of the chair of the Breslau lodge to the three dead skeletons . On January 25, 1744 he became the Prussian Real Secret Budget Minister and later Minister of State and War . From November 1747 he was the successor to Friedrich Bogislaw von Schwerin (1674–1747) head stable master in the Duchy of Silesia . His successor was his predecessor's son, Friedrich Albert von Schwerin (1717–1789).
