Johann Schmitt (politician, 1815)

Johann Schmitt (born June 6, 1815 in Ensheim ; † August 6, 1893 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian teacher and politician and a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Johann Schmitt was the son of the landlord Jakob Wilhelm Schmitt and his wife Anna Maria, née Schmal. Schmitt, who was a Protestant, married Katharina born Simon on August 11, 1839 in Alzey.

Schmitt attended the teachers' seminar from 1831 to 1833 and was then a teacher at private institutions in Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden. In 1837 he became vicar and then a teacher in Aulendiebach. In 1841 he was a teacher in Bleichenbach, in 1843 in Fränkisch-Crumbach and in 1849 in Bessungen. In 1850 he was dismissed for his political activities. In 1856 he became vicar in Nierstein and in 1858 in Graefenhausen. In 1865 he became vicar, then a teacher in Hergershausen. In 1872 he retired at his own request and later became editor of the school messenger in Hesse.

From 1849 to 1850 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency Starkenburg 11 / Groß-Bieberau . He represented democratic positions in the estates.
