Johann Tychsen Hemsen

Johann Tychsen Hemsen (born October 15, 1792 in Wrixum , † May 15, 1830 in Göttingen ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Hemsen did not attend high school , but received private lessons from Pastor Bahne Asmussen . He received no other lessons. In 1812 he moved to the University of Copenhagen to study theology, which lasted until 1817. He continued his studies for another year at the University of Göttingen . In Copenhagen he passed the official exam in theology and then tried to get a job as a preacher . The last time he was supposed to give a test sermon was on May 29, 1821 in Deezbüll . But when his efforts failed this time too, he decided to pursue an academic career. So his doctorate he attended the University of Gottingen, shortly thereafter, Doctor of Philosophy . Shortly thereafter, he was hired as a private lecturer at the university . Finally in 1822 he got a temporary preaching position, albeit at the university church. The following year he was promoted to both second university preacher and associate professor . He was appointed doctor of theology in 1825. He held his teaching and preaching position until his sudden death at the age of 37.
