Marine casualty on December 18, 2011

Graphic representation of the damage after the accident.

The Johanna attracted media attention with a marine casualty on the night of December 18-19, 2011. The bow of the ship was pierced by an unknown object above the waterline. The entry and exit holes each had a diameter of more than one meter. There were initially contradicting statements about which of the holes the object entered or exited. One hole was on the deck of the ship, the other on the starboard side above the bulbous bow . Shortly after the accident, there was no reliable statement about the cause of the damage, and the crew was unable to make any relevant observations during the night. Federal police investigators believed it was possible that the support pillar of a working platform had penetrated the ship. The Johanna would have been addressed in this case, three meters above the waterline of the floating piers. A subsequent investigation by the Danish Maritime Investigation Board confirmed this assumption: The Johanna had collided with a pontoon with supporting pillars. One of these support pillars had drilled through the hull of the Johanna in the collision .

At the time of the accident, the ship was in the busy Kadetrinne ( 54 ° 27 ′ 31.9 ″  N , 12 ° 16 ′ 12.5 ″  E ). Over 60,000 ships pass through this area every year, including several thousand tankers .

The Johanna was following the accident at the Swedish Karlskrona investigated. A makeshift repair also took place here. The ship then continued its voyage towards Kokkola .
