From 1983 to 2005 she was a costume painter for opera and drama in Frankfurt, at the same time she created her first themed works. In the years 1995 to 2006, the partly large-format works for the picture cycles “Connections”, “Encounters”, “Winterwege”, “Dancer and King”, “House, Table, Bed, Chair”, “My Village”, “Little Monsters” were created "And" Couples "and others. From 2006 the pictorial themes “My City”, “Traces” and “Landscapes” were added, some of them as large-format works.

From 2009 Johanna K. Eichhorn also devoted herself to photography, in which she proceeded self-taught and created pictures whose contents, colors and structures document a clear relationship to her painting.

review

In her predominantly informal or abstract painting, the thematic cycles are predominant and complement each other to form a painterly unit. The flair of the Frankfurt opera and theater stage is not only recognizable in the figurative works, which also have subliminal eroticism : images that exude an expressive and impetuous power and document personal experiences. Her paintings , gouaches or mixed- media pictures reveal interesting techniques such as letting colors flow, hatching, scribbling and scratching, which leaves traces in the application of paint. The surfaces are crossed by notches, folds, lettering and signs contain puzzling messages.

The symbols and signs such as crosses and ladders that appear again and again in almost all works, especially in the landscapes, correspond to the mysticism that surrounds us. Johanna K. Eichhorn saw ladders not only as a graphic element, but also used them as bridges. Their ladders are signposts that have grown into the landscape. The viewer needs time to decipher the multitude of symbols. As with all works, different interpretations are possible.

Her photographic picture cycle “Language of Trees”, which she has created in recent years, shows the relationship between nature and art. Ambiguous landscapes with figural signs, which also appear in her painting, allow the viewer to understand the language that is meant here. These photographs clearly show that art has models in the wealth of forms found in nature. A formal resemblance to her painting can be seen in the photographs.

Outside of her painting, twenty-two pictures were created between 1998 and 2016 that depict powerful angels that convey a clear political message to the viewer. This angel cycle was exhibited as a complete work in 2015 in the Trinity Church in Frankfurt.
