Johannes Baazius the Younger
Johannes Baazius the Elder J. (born July 13, 1626 in Jönköping , † May 12, 1681 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish Lutheran theologian and Archbishop of Uppsala .
Life
Baazius, a son of the theologian and later Bishop of Växjö Johannes Baazius the Elder. Ä. , studied at the Universities of Dorpat , Uppsala , Königsberg and Greifswald . From 1653 he worked as court preacher to Queen Christina and her successor Karl X. Gustav and from 1659 as pastor in Vingåker . In 1667 he became bishop in the diocese of Växjö and in 1673 in the diocese of Skara . In 1675 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. Appointed Archbishop of Uppsala in May 1677 , he served as the highest dignitary of the Church of Sweden until his death . At the Diets of 1678 and 1680 he was the spokesman for the pastors. He enjoyed the special trust of King Charles XI. and died while visiting the royal court.
