Johannes Duft (born November 16, 1883 in Gossau ; † June 15, 1957 in St. Gallen , resident in Kaltbrunn ) was a Swiss politician (CVP) and lawyer .

biography

Johannes Duft was born on November 16, 1883 in Gossau as the son of the business traveler Johann Albert Duft. Fragrance, who initially graduated from the St. Gallen Commercial Academy in addition to his work as a post office clerk , then went on to study law at the University of Zurich , which he obtained in 1910 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed.

As a result, he ran a law firm in St. Gallen from 1913 until his death. Between 1912 and 1918 he also worked as a secretary at the commercial arbitration court in St. Gallen.

Johannes Duft, who married Anna, the daughter of the cantonal engineer Fritz Bersinger, in 1914, died on June 15, 1957, five months before his 74th birthday in St. Gallen. He was the brother of the politician Emil and the father of the theologian Johannes Duft .

Political career

In 1911, Johannes Duft co-founded the Christian Social Party in St. Gallen. He was then elected to the St. Gallen Grand Council in 1915 , where he sat until 1924. In addition, he was from 1918 to 1921 and from 1927 to 1930 the municipal council of the city of St. Gallen. In addition, he represented the canton in the National Council from 1919 to 1939 . He also served as Vice President of the Christian Social Workers' Union in Switzerland.

In 1926 Johannes Duft was at the forefront against the federal grain monopoly.
