Johannes Elers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Elers (* in Lauenburg / Elbe ; † May 14, 1737 in Ratzeburg ) was an Evangelical Lutheran pastor and (general) superintendent for Lauenburg , based first in Lauenburg / Elbe from 1703 to 1705, then in Ratzeburg from 1705 to 1737 .

Professional background

Elers was the son of the general superintendent Albertus Elers . From October 1680 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock together with his brother Albert . In 1683 he moved to the Albertus University in Königsberg . In 1687, after passing his exams, he became a candidate for the Ministry of Spiritual Affairs in Hamburg .

He initially worked as a field preacher for 14 years before he was appointed general superintendent of the Duchy of Saxony-Lauenburg and pastor in Lauenburg / Elbe in September 1703 . When Saxony-Lauenburg came to Hanover in 1705 , the Lauenburg state superintendent was moved to Ratzeburg. This was probably related to the focus of the ducal administration in Ratzeburg. At the same time, the general superintendent called himself only superintendent .

Elers was transferred to Ratzeburg and began his service on May 17, 1705 at the town church of St. Petri .

His son Johannes Albert Elers (1705–1762) also studied theology in Rostock, was a candidate in Hamburg in 1731 and was first a deacon and then pastor of St. Abundus in Groden from 1733 until his death .
