Severin Walther Slüter (also Sluterus or Schlüter ) (born January 12, 1646 in Hamburg , † December 31, 1697 in Lauenburg / Elbe ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian, pastor and general superintendent .

Live and act

Severin Walther Slueter was a son of the Hamburg lawyer and mayor Johann Slueter (1616–1686). After studying in Rostock (1662), Jena and Altdorf, Slueter received his doctorate in theology in Rostock in 1672 . He was first ducal full-time extraconciliar professor of theology in Rostock (1673–1674) and then court preacher to the Danish queen mother Sophie Amalie for ten years .

Slueter was appointed pastor of the Maria Magdalenen Church in Lauenburg / Elbe and general superintendent of the Duchy of Lauenburg in 1684 by Duke Julius Franz ; he signed the Lower Saxony Church Ordinance on December 19, 1684.

During his tenure, as a representative of Lutheran orthodoxy , he fought pietistic influences in the duchy. On June 4, 1694, after tough theological disputes, he expelled Bartholomäus Crasselius , who worked as a private tutor for the Pfeifer family in Lauenburg / Elbe and later became known as the poet of the chant “Dir, dir, Jehovah, I want to sing”, from the country .

Slüters 1680 published in the printing unit Proplaeum historiae Christianae ... was by decree of the Roman Catholic Congregation on the 21 November 1695 index set.
