Bartholomäus Crasselius
Bartholomäus Crasselius (Crasselt) (born February 21, 1667 in Wernsdorf , † November 10, 1724 in Düsseldorf ) was a Lutheran pastor and hymn poet .
Life
Crasselius studied at the University of Halle . Here he belongs to the circle of August Hermann Francke . After his exams, as was customary at the time, he first worked as a private tutor, for example with the Count of Schönburg at Glauchau Castle . In 1693/94 he was tutor in the family of the businessman Franz Julius Pfeiffer in Lauenburg / Elbe . Because of his pietist views, there were theological arguments with the Lauenburg pastor and superintendent Severin Walther Slueter . At the beginning of June 1694, Slueter arranged for Crasselius to be expelled from the country. Then he worked in Saxony . Also disciplined by the Saxon regional church for his pietistic attitude, he went to Nidda ( Wetterau ) as a pastor in 1701 and finally to Düsseldorf in 1708 , where he worked until his death in 1724.
Crasselius created an abundance of hymns, of which Anastasius Freylinghausen took ten in 1704 in his "Spiritual Song Book". In the Protestant hymn book is his 1695 Resulting song "You, you, O Most High, I will sing" contain (EC 328). Originally the opening line of this song was: "You, you JE-HO-VA, I want to sing". In the course of a revision, the name of God commonly used in German was replaced by the designation "Höchst".
