Johannes Gujan (born November 13, 1668 in Splügen ; † 1748 ibid) was a Swiss Reformed pastor .

Life

Johannes Gujan was born as the son of pastor Jakob Gujan and Elsa Zoya on November 13, 1668 in Splügen in the canton of Graubünden . Nothing is known about his school education. In 1686 he came to Zurich , enrolled at the University of Lausanne on January 31, 1688 to study theology and was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in Zuoz in the summer of the following year . However, he was only active as a pastor from 1692 to 1695, in Safien . He then succeeded Johannes Christian Leonhardi as field preacher for the Capol family and experienced a war of succession during these nine years of activity . When Gujan tried to get the pastor's post in Tamins back in Bünden in 1704, he didn't get it. So he decided to become pastor at Nufenen GR the following year . Another year later, the municipality of Splügen expressed the wish to have Gujan as pastor, which he agreed to. From then on, he also looked after the parishes of Sufers and Medels in the Rhine Forest , which in 1726 received their own pastors. When he became dean of the three leagues in 1726 , he became one of the most influential Reformed Graubünden theologians. In 1746, Johannes Gujan gave both the dean and the parish offices for reasons of age and died two years later.
