Johannes Kühn

Johannes Kühn (born February 3, 1934 in Bergweiler , Tholey municipality , Saarland ) is a German writer .

Life

As the son of a family of miners, Kühn grew up with eight siblings in Hasborn (also in the Tholey community ), where he still lives today. From 1948 he attended the mission school of the Steyler missionaries in St. Wendel , which he left in 1953 due to a protracted illness without a high school diploma. Since he lacked the financial means to make up for the qualification on the second educational path, he attended German studies as a guest student at the universities of Saarbrücken and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1956 to 1961 . He also attended the drama school in Saarbrücken from 1955 to 1958.

From 1963 to 1973 he worked as a laborer in his brother's civil engineering company. On the side he wrote dramas, poems and fairy tales, which initially did not receive a greater response.

In the following years Kühn wandered through his homeland and recorded his impressions in worker's and nature poems, which first received national attention. Nevertheless, at the beginning of the 1980s, he gradually stopped publishing his poems. It is thanks to the persistent efforts of the befriended couple Irmgard and Benno Rech and the Saarland writer Ludwig Harig that Kühn's poetic work was processed and at least partially published during this time. The editions of his poems in the late 1980s met with a broad positive response. Kühn's life is portrayed in the 2018 film Paper, Pen, Coffee and Cigars - The Poet Johannes Kühn by Gabi Heleen Bollinger.
